Campaigners have issued a serious warning to holidaymakers and day-trippers about visiting Cleethorpes due to the lack of public toilets in the resort, a recent news report has been able to suggest.
The toilets at the Boating Lake closed on April 1, with all three remaining public toilets in Cleethorpes – in Sea Road, Grant Street, Kingsway and St Peter’s Avenue – likely to close if an external company can’t be found to step in and run them.
The closures are to save costs, with the cost of running the Boating Lake toilets put at £38,321, with £25,020 of that on cleaning alone, and a budget shortfall of of more than £50,000 to run the authority’s seven blocks.
When North East Lincolnshire Council introduced a 30p charge to use the borough’s loos last February, it was hoped that around £124,000 extra cash would be raised, but it was revealed the blocks only made £67,000 between them in the first year.
Retford Changing Places Campaign aims to highlight the need for a specially adapted accessible toilets. They said the toilets at the Boating Lake were the only registered Changing Places facilities in the seaside town.
