A local council has announced plans to close all local public toilets due to the Coronavirus pandemic, a recent news report in the local media has been able to suggest.
A spokesman said: “As you know, the latest government requirement to tackle the COVID-19 crisis is to only go outside for food, health reasons, or work (where this absolutely cannot be done from home). We have been advised that this is in line with other councils across Dorset.
The toilets which will be closed are at the following sites: Portland Bill, Easton Gardens, Yeates Road (behind Portland Heights Hotel), and Fortuneswell bus stop.
The spokesman added they were being closed “due to the size of the buildings housing the facilities, it would be impossible for users, including those who clean the toilets, to maintain the two-meter distance currently advised by the government”.
“Secondly, our cleaning contractor has reported that the supply cupboards within the toilets have been broken into on occasions and toilet paper has been stolen. Therefore, we feel that it is necessary that the toilets be closed for hygiene reasons.
