The public conveniences located on the High Street in Polegate, East Sussex, might stay open, after the town council decided to consider an alternate option for their future funding and management, a news report in the local media has recently revealed.

The Polegate Town Council does not believe that a community toilet scheme would work in the town, as suggested by the Wealden District Council (WDC), who previously ran the public toilets.

The toilets were set to close after the town council discussed several options offered by WDC to keep them open, but did not decided to take up any of the proposed solutions, since the financial implications it would have a knock-on affect on council tax payers.

So it was decided that WDC would proceed with the proposed closure from April 1, whilst PTC looks at alternative ways to fund and provide the service.

The latest solutions to be considered include the PTC paying a very small rent for the toilets on a one year lease or possibly longer. The town council is also looking at alternative toilets being installed on town council land.

Installing access restriction solutions and charging a small fee for access seems to be a much more sensible solution for any cash-strapped council, and this is exactly where Toilet Turnstiles could really puts its experience to good work.

Our toilet turnstiles are built from graded stainless steel, for easier cleaning and maintenance, and also come equipped with lockable lids to prevent unwanted access. Furthermore, the separate coin box offers very versatile mounting options, as it can be installed either in front of the turnstile, at the side or alternatively, on the wall, with the cash box at the rear.

The turnstile’s coin mechanism can be programmed for virtually any combination of coins with a secure cash box to hold them, while the additional counters for the number of entries made will enable a thorough level of control over the system’s operation.
