A couple of public toilets in Moray that were shut down by public authorities last year have re-opened just in time for the tourism season thanks to the hard work of the community, a recent news report in the local media has been able to suggest.

Facilities in both Lossiemouth and Cullen were closed last summer as part of Moray Council’s cost-cutting measures despite protests from locals.

However, the public loos at Cullen West Beach were officially re-opened a few days ago after being shut since July, just in time for the start of the busy tourism season.

And the Cullen Amenities Group have been fundraising to re-open the beach toilets in a bid to keep the tourists in the area longer.

Volunteers have given the facilities a new lick of paint, fixed some of the structural problems and installed new signs for loons and quines.

In Lossiemouth, meanwhile, the community are opening their toilets in the near future. They have raised £1,000 so far and are continuing fundraising efforts by placing donation boxes at various businesses in Lossiemouth.
Lossiemouth Community Council vice-chairwoman Carolle Ralph said: “We are hoping to make some more money that would allow us to keep them open all-year round.

“We have also got a meeting today at 3pm at the library for anyone who wants to help us in anything, like volunteering or fundraising.”

Charging a fee for access is quite often the most sensible solution when it comes to public toilets’ funding – and indeed keeping these facilities open for the general public, and this is exactly where Toilet Turnstiles could really put its

Our toilet turnstiles are built from graded stainless steel, for easier cleaning and maintenance, and also come equipped with lockable lids to prevent unwanted access. Furthermore, the separate coin box offers very versatile mounting options, as it can be installed either in front of the turnstile, at the side or alternatively, on the wall, with the cash box at the rear.

The turnstile’s coin mechanism can be programmed for virtually any combination of coins with a secure cash box to hold them, while the additional counters for the number of entries made will enable a thorough level of control over the system’s operation.
