Public toilets in Afan Forest Park will undergo a major revamp as part of a project that the Welsh Government and local authority hope will help bring more visitors to the area and boost local tourism, a recent news report has been able to suggest.

Councillors have welcomed funds towards a £310,000 project that aims to attract more visitors to the Afan Valley with new features for families and outdoor enthusiasts.

Neath Port Talbot Council has agreed to revamp public facilities at Afan Forest Park by refurbishing on-site public toilets and showers, building an accessible children’s play area and improving car parking capacity.

The council’s cabinet member for finance said it was “really nice” to see a council report on the plans and she was “really pleased” the project will provide disabled facilities on the site.

According to a report by the council’s head of property and regeneration Simon Brennan, the existing toilets and shower facilities at the visitor centre are “tired and outdated”.

The report reads: “These facilities support outdoor recreation, offering a place to clean off after a muddy bike ride or visit and support overnight stays at the informal on-site campsite.

“The refurbishment of the toilet and shower facilities would enhance the overall quality of the visitor experience and offer opportunities to run these more efficiently.”
