A local council is currently seeking approval for listed building consent to revamp a dated public toilet, a recent news report in the local media has been able to reveal.

Wrexham council is seeking planning permission to and listed building consent to renovate the Henblas Street toilets, which are part of the General Market building dating back to 1879. The upgrade will see the current female-only lavatory provide toilets for both sexes along with disabled facilities, an attendant room and cleaners storeroom.

The planning application states: “The toilet conversion is contained within the structure of the existing toilet and will not affect the adjacent market stalls. Improvements will include re-pointing of the brickwork and removal of weeds. The existing windows will be re-glazed and painted.

“Internally, the toilets will be fitted with traditional toilets and basins. Flooring will consist of red and blue ceramic tiles and the walls will be tiled up to 1.8m with Victorian cream ceramic tiles.

“It is intended to install a coin slot for access to the toilets which should reduce vandalism.”
