A local council is currently seeking approval for listed building consent to revamp a dated public toilet, a recent news report in the local media has been able to reveal.
Wrexham council is seeking planning permission to and listed building consent to renovate the Henblas Street toilets, which are part of the General Market building dating back to 1879. The upgrade will see the current female-only lavatory provide toilets for both sexes along with disabled facilities, an attendant room and cleaners storeroom.
The planning application states: “The toilet conversion is contained within the structure of the existing toilet and will not affect the adjacent market stalls. Improvements will include re-pointing of the brickwork and removal of weeds. The existing windows will be re-glazed and painted.
“Internally, the toilets will be fitted with traditional toilets and basins. Flooring will consist of red and blue ceramic tiles and the walls will be tiled up to 1.8m with Victorian cream ceramic tiles.
“It is intended to install a coin slot for access to the toilets which should reduce vandalism.”

Our toilet turnstiles are built from graded stainless steel, for easier cleaning and maintenance, and also come equipped with lockable lids to prevent unwanted access. Furthermore, the separate coin box offers very versatile mounting options, as it can be installed either in front of the turnstile, at the side or alternatively, on the wall, with the cash box at the rear.
The turnstile’s coin mechanism can be programmed for virtually any combination of coins with a secure cash box to hold them, while the additional counters for the number of entries made will enable a thorough level of control over the system’s operation.
