Town clerk Robin Williams said the council has already paid out substantial sums to repair to doors.“There is an option to replace the doors with steel ones to prevent them being damaged so easily in the future. But the fact that the new doors would be made of stainless steel makes them more expensive to buy.”

He said the total cost of further improvements to the toilets could end up costing around £30,000.

The steel doors would also have a coin-slot feature, which would allow the council to introduce a charge for the conveniences.
