The Llandudno Hospitality Association, comprising most hotel owners in the area, is publicly demanding more public toilets in order to boost tourism in the area.

According to a news report on the matter, the members have received numerous complaints this summer from visitors unable to find a public convenience when they needed one, and now, they’re asking for solutions to this situation, which could deter visitors from returning to the resort.

“It has been brought to my attention by both residents and visitors to the town that the provision of council public conveniences is seriously lacking, both during the day when the council-run facilities are available but even more so in the evening when these are closed” said the Association’s Chairman.

“I am aware of the council-run ‘use our toilet’ scheme, however the signage for these facilities is not visible or clear to understand and the town maps displayed around the town do not show these locations,” he added.

As a result, the Hospitality Association has asked for an up to date list to be drawn up by the county council detailing which businesses have signed up to the community toilet scheme so that this could be distributed to guesthouses, and displayed in the tourist information centre.

While keeping public toilets open can be quite a difficult task for cash-strapped public authorities, the truth of the matter is that setting an access charge that would cover operational costs and keeping the toilets open might quite often be a much more sensible choice.

Toilet Turnstiles has a long tradition of supplying a variety of access control solutions for public toilets, all of which are built from graded stainless steel, for easier cleaning and maintenance, and also come equipped with lockable lids to prevent unwanted access.

Additionally, in order to make the fee charging process a bit easier and faster, they pack a separate coin box that offers very versatile mounting options, as it can be installed either in front of the turnstile, at the side or alternatively, on the wall, with the cash box at the rear.

The turnstile’s coin mechanism can be programmed for virtually any combination of coins with a secure cash box to hold them, while the additional counters for the number of entries made will enable a thorough level of control over the system’s operation.
