The Pembrokeshire council has started a review of 28 of a total of 93 toilet blocks installed across the county, claiming that either closing them or transferring ownership to 3’rd parties could save it up to £135,000 a year.
The authority said it had the highest ratio of toilet blocks to population – 7.9 per 10,000 – in Wales, the total costs of running public toilets in Pembrokeshire reaching around £1.5m per year.
For this reason, it plans to asks for assistance from local businesses or community organisations on running the public toilets, or shut them altogether.
