Up to 11 public conveniences in Torridge, North Devon, could face the axe as part of a major review carried out by the Torridge District Council, a recent news report in the local media was able to reveal.

The draft proposals, which could see the council save £65,000 a year, would offer parish and town council’s the chance to ‘save’ the facilities at threat of closure.

If a council or community group could not be found to take over the running by April 2016, the toilet facilities listed could be closed and sold at auction.

Council leader Philip Collins added: “We want to keep them all open, and open more, but that’s not the way we can go on the funding we have got. It is a difficult call.”

Other options put before councillors were winter closures, pay-per-use and asking town and parish councils to contribute towards running costs.

Since the public toilets’ operational costs can be quite significant at times, charging a fee for access is the most sensible solution when it comes to public toilets’ funding, and this is exactly where Toilet Turnstiles could really puts its experience to good work.

Our toilet turnstiles are built from graded stainless steel, for easier cleaning and maintenance, and also come equipped with lockable lids to prevent unwanted access. Furthermore, the separate coin box offers very versatile mounting options, as it can be installed either in front of the turnstile, at the side or alternatively, on the wall, with the cash box at the rear.

The turnstile’s coin mechanism can be programmed for virtually any combination of coins with a secure cash box to hold them, while the additional counters for the number of entries made will enable a thorough level of control over the system’s operation.
